2016 Installation Dinner

SMACNA-St. Louis gathered on Saturday night, February 6, 2016 to celebrate together, while officially installing its Officers and Directors for 2016. SMACNA front man and Vice-president, Paul Klaus, welcomed the guests back to the St. Louis Club for its second year.
Surprisingly, it turned out to be an evening of highs and lows-more highs.
One of the highs, of course, and no surprise was the food-the St. Louis Club always lives up to its reputation.
Howard Stine, Jarrell Contracting, announced and installed the Officers and new Directors for 2016:
Robert Grossmann, President, Murphy Company
Dave Boschert, Vice-president, Weigmann and Associates
Kevin Suiter, Vice-president, Murphy Company
Paul Klaus, Vice-president, Lyon Sheet Metal
Russ Scott, Treasurer, Scott-Lee Heating
Katie Sinn, Director, Fresh Air Heating
Paul Heimann, Director, Welsch Heating and Cooling.
The new SMACNA President, Robert Grossmann, was the focal point of several highlights. Robert is the son of longtime MIF President, Labor Chairman, and 1970-71 SMACNA President Ray Grossmann (1930-2011). Ray’s wife, Joan, and Robert’s three sisters-Carol Felzien, Jeanine Schierbecker, and Anne Grossmann-and wife Donna were all present to witness the passing of the mantle to the next generation.
Robert’s brief remarks made clear his commitment to the continuing tradition of professionalism, quality and partnership in the St. Louis construction and labor industry.
Shortly thereafter, in what may have the night’s high point, Robert sat in on drums for a rocking rendition of Keep Your Hands to Yourself with Joe Marlotti and the Blue Plate Specials.
Unfortunately for Joe, the SMACNA crowd proved a tough audience for the evening. Joe experienced one the night’s low points as the crowd was stingy with its laughter. Ever the pro, Joe soldiered on and did deliver an enjoyable comedy set.
Joe and his band closed the night with a really fun Ramones medley which “filled” the dance floor with the remaining hard-core guests.
The low point award-as you will see-goes to the photography department. It was strictly amateur night as the SMACNA camera was passed around until it finally landed the capable hands of Marilyn Lunte who was the author of any of the photos you can actually see.

Newly elected SMACNA President Robert Grossman, Murphy Company, welcomed members and guests. Following lunch, the panel entertained questions from the floor.
Duct sealing, air leakages testing, varying codes, their requirements, new code adoption dates were all discussed at length and in the spirit of cooperation. Contractors and vendors were encouraged to communicate with the building officials on any matters of concern. (Contact information above.)

This meeting was the first of what will be a regular format of cooperative communications. While this meeting featured officials from several jurisdictions, future meetings may narrow that focus to one entity at a time.

The meeting was well attended-84.

2015 Products Trade Show

DSCN0453From the opening of its doors until the last jumbo shrimp was consumed, the Annual SMACNA-St. Louis Products and Industry Show again brought together all aspects of the St. Louis sheet metal construction industry.

Having found its home in the state-of-the-art SMART Local #36 Union Hall and Training Facility, the show regularly features 50 of the top industry suppliers and is attended by 200 of the industry’s decision makers.

By all informal rating standards, the show was a success again this year.  The credit for this success is shared among the SMACNA Associate Members whose enthusiastic and professional participation are the centerpiece, the SMACNA staff especially Marilyn Lunte, the Trade Show godmother, and our cheerful volunteers-Sharon Schmidt and Linda Goldkamp( SMACNA), Laura Lehmkuhl (American Metals),  Tammy Ameis (Langendorf), and Megan Hughes and Jennifer Crowley (Kuhlmann Supply).

We look forward to your participation in next year’s event.  Mark it on your calendar-Wednesday, September 28, 2016. (Check out all the other photos of this event below.)
