Mark Bengard New Sr. VP at Murphy

Bengard Takes New Senior VP Slot at Murphy
Murphy Company has promoted Mark Bengard, PE, to the position of senior vice president of sales and pre-construction, effective immediately.
Bengard’s to CNR what explained what he described as Murphy’s unique business model: a three legged stool with a get-work leg, an operations leg, and an accounting leg.
He said that putting preconstruction services (estimating) and design/build together in one group under his direction is really just formal recognition of the fact that Murphy is doing more and more design assist work, in which the engineers in the design/build group have been working with estimators anyway. Adding marketing, which is a small department, and the other sales people into the group creates what Murphy internally calls the “get work side” of the business, which together with the operations side and the support/accounting side form the three legs of the business stool.
“We’re very unique in how we do that,” Bengard said, “but it is pretty much what we’ve been doing all along.”
The announcement was made by Patrick Murphy Jr., president and chief executive officer. “Mark has served in a leadership role at Murphy Company for many years and has earned the respect of our customers, vendor partners and team members,” said Murphy. “Whether it is owners, general contractors, architects or consulting engineering firms, Mark and his team have created and enhanced multiple relationships for our company and have been responsible for many of our major projects. I am delighted to ask Mark to step into this expanded role.”
Bengard joined Murphy Company in 1989 and continues to serve as senior vice-president, design-build in addition to taking on expanded duties. A graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, he is a certified professional engineer (PE) in California, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma and Florida. He is a member of the American Society of heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the American Society of Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), and is an NEBB certified member of the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB). He also is a member of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractor National Association (SMACNA), serving as president of the St. Louis chapter in 2011 and 2013. In 2007, he was named Engineer of the Year by the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers.
On Dec. 4, the DBIA-Mid-America region presented Bengard’s team with a 2013 Merit Award for its work on Schattdecor’s new plant in Maryland Heights, Mo. Last month, the AGC of St. Louis also honored Murphy Company as Top Mechanical Contractor for the second consecutive year.

8-Hour Work Day

Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors Association
St. Louis Chapter
August 1, 2013

TO: MIF Contractors

Dear Contractor:

As you may be aware, in our new Agreement with Local #36, which goes into effect today, August 1, we included language regarding the 8 hour day. That language said that we would switch to the 8 hour day when unemployment had stayed at less than 10% or August 1, 2014, whichever came first.

Dave Zimmermann and I have discussed it and he is aware of how important that issue is to the Contractors. Currently the out of work numbers are about 10 over the 10% number. Nevertheless, he has agreed to allow any Contractors desiring to return to the 8 hour day (40 hour) week may do so beginning effective Monday, August 5th.

I believe that this is a perfect example of the Partnership we have with Local #36.

Very truly yours,

George “Butch” Welsch
Chairman
